Alcohol and Drug Addiction service (City of Oslo)
    

provides and monitors care and rehabilitation services for citizens with alcohol and drug problems.

The agency is responsible for the funding and co-ordination of 38 institutions and other services for alcohol and drug addicts. The institutions are partly owned by the community, partly by private foundations and religious or secular organisations.

The agency's organisational features are:

The agency's budget for 2011 amounts to 439 million Norwegian kroner (NOK), equivalent to approximately 56 million euro. In addition, the local social welfare offices contribute to the expenses when their clients are staying at our institutions.

  • Outreach services and street corner work
  • Rehabilitation, i.e. 16 institutions and services (6 of which are privately owned)
  • Care, i.e. 8 institutions mostly for elderly clients with a long history of alcohol and substance abuse (4 of which are privately owned)
  • Institutions providing special services for women
  • Harm reduction services helping users to develop self care and harm reducing skills
  • Low-threshold clinics for medical services and health advice centres for drug users, including dispensaries for clean injection equipment
  • Methadone programme - set up on several locations
  • The Competence Centre for prevention programs, information campaigns and continuing education and innovation

440 man-labour years are employed in the agency's manifold services, 35 of which are used by the agency's administration.
